ENDER GÜZEY
Born at the Galata Mevlevi Dervish Lodge, Istanbul in 1951. Dreamed of
surreal images in amongst the ancient tomb stones and trees of the
Mevlevi Dervish Lodge. Attempted photography with his father’s Leika
machine, who was a photographer at Topkapi Museum. Designed dresses for
his mother Nermin. In a few days she would be wearing them elegantly. He
never allowed anyone to cut his hair except the philosopher-gardener and
more so overgrown Uncle Şevket.
At
the end of his childhood at the Mevlevi Dervish Lodge (1969-1973) his
affection to art and especially surrealism movement attracted him to
learn art and graphic design at the atelier of Prof. Mac Zimmermann, a
prominent surrealist at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. He opened two
personal exhibitions at the renown Gallery Delf and Gallery Christiane
von Kapf n 1972. Güzey was appointed to be Prof. Mac Zimmermann’s
assistant at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts between 1975 and 77. Later,
between 1978 and 1982 he became associate professor and then head of the
department at the Mönchengladbach Institute, Department of Fine Arts and
Creativity. His first performance was staged here (1982-1990
Environment). Since 1976 he has took part in more than 100 personal
exhibitions and performances. He left for Bodrum in 2007 to establish
the “Ender Güzey Holistic Art Museum”
