THE SCULPTURES OF TAMER AYDIN

Tamer Aydın's sculptures are the expression of an intense wholeness. Even his small works reveal a monumental potential. The swirls and twirls within give the sensation that they yearn to be free of gravitation and enter a dimension of weightlessness. The wings and wing-like forms support this sensation. The surfaces of massive sculptures reflect the brightness of the skies. These cut, torn, detached and dispersed surfaces can be related to the layers of frescoes and succeed in reflecting tranquil dreams. They tell the story of a world where adventure fuses with the structural story of tradition. The surfaces give the sculptures something more than dimension and reflect the layers of the present. The Anatolian motifs and geometry on the surfaces can actually be observed within the urban texture of Istanbul. Parallel to his painting, these layers of the past and present, becomes solid with colourful paints. It is as though they exhibit the poetic and dreamy tenderness of peaceful moments, the joy and rhythm of a happy family. Along the layers of paint, woven within a dreamy conscious-subconscious state, light – weightless, one can sense some sort of solidarity, the loneliness of a person who watches life go by at a distance. As a musician alone with his instrument and music, an artist alone with his art tries to express the world he shares with the audience, he needs to put some distance and look from the outside to be able to portray. This is either a confrontation or choice between loneliness and grouping. Tamer Aydın's art contains existence that relates to each of us and is simple to internalise. His works resemble stories about the unavoidable relation between sunshine and shade.
